To Nap or Not to Nap?

Is it ok to nap during the day?

Many people like to nap at some point during the day to refresh themselves. After work you may come home tired, especially if you are having trouble sleeping at night. At that point it's hard to resist laying down for a short snooze. Even just twenty minutes to feel a bit more refreshed for the evening.

In fact, napping during the day may prove a healthy way to deal with sleep in general. Some studies have indicated that a nap in the afternoon may reduce the risk of heart disease in some people.

For a person with a healthy sleep pattern, to nap in the afternoon may be a desirable option. However, taking a nap after work or even earlier in the afternoon will reduce the effect of sleep hormones that are available to you and may keep you awake at night. When we are experiencing sleep problems, we might be better off to avoid napping during the day, even short naps.

Don't replace naps with other stimulants

Even if you are very tired in the afternoon because of your lack of sleep, it is better to endure and fight the urge to make yourself feel more awake by napping or drinking coffee. Try to just accept that you are going to be tired in the afternoon until your sleeping patterns are healthier. Try to remind yourself that soon enough you will get your sleep and it will be well deserved.
